In recognition of the good sustainability practices of restaurants or consumption centers, such as hotels, cafes, bars, and shopping centers, among others, Mayor Alejandro Ruz Castro awarded for the first time the distinction “Merida Seal: Sustainable Gastronomic Space” to nine restaurants in Merida.
“With this distinction, our objective is to highlight and promote the effort and socio-environmental responsibility that the restaurant sector has always shown, which represents one of the main sources of employment and economy in the country,” said the councilman.
He also announced that in this first delivery of the recognition, a total of 17 restaurants participated, of which nine obtained the distinction by punctually fulfilling the requirements.
The nine restaurants with the “Merida Seal: Sustainable Gastronomic Space” distinction are:

Ruz Castro took the opportunity to reiterate the invitation to all establishments in the sector to join this municipal project of the “Merida Seal: Sustainable Gastronomic Space”, to form a great coordinated work team and achieve better results.
At the event held at the “Fernando Castro Pacheco” Cultural Center, the mayor recalled that UNESCO considers Mérida as a Creative Gastronomic City, so the City Council must continue working to improve the processes that revolve around traditional cuisine.
