Despite the torrential rains, the main downtown markets were very active yesterday.
The tenants arrived very early to arrange, dry, and clean because, as a fruit and vegetable seller at the Lucas de Gálvez market, whom they call “El Chan,” as he says, cannot afford to stop working one single day.
City Hall and Municipal Police personnel toured all areas to verify that everything was in order.
“A little mud and puddles, but nothing that cannot be remedied,” said Mrs. Elsa Cupules, from the San Benito poultry area.
The morning passed without damage, but an excess of flies and mosquitoes was reported, especially around the food area.
Merchants said it was expected that the authorities would be fumigating the place again in the next few days.
The San Benito market was also operating regularly all week long.
If you live in Merida, or if you come to visit, go and buy your groceries and other supplies at the “Mercados“, first of all, you will find high-quality fruits and vegetables, at affordable prices; but most importantly, you will be able to walk into the market, see it, smell it, feel it, and live the experience.
