The companies of European origin Eni México and Wintershall Dea requested to return part or all of the oil contracts they obtained during the oil rounds, the National Hydrocarbons Commission (CNH) reported this Tuesday during an ordinary session.
Specifically, the governing body of the CNH approved the start of early termination of a couple of contracts for the Italian company Eni.
The Italian private oil company renounced 1,502 square kilometers located off the coast of Veracruz due to lack of oil prospectivity, said Marco Christopher Oliver de la Cruz, researcher in the legal unit of the CNH.
Eni México also decided to abandon 111.47 square kilometers of an area located off the coast of Veracruz and Tabasco.
Wintershall Dea says goodbye to Mexico
Regarding the German company, Wintershall Dea México, the full return of two contracts located off the coast of Veracruz in the oil province of Tampico-Misantla was approved.
Agustín Díaz Lasta, president commissioner of the CNH, indicated that it is to be expected that resignations will occur in the oil industry, and although many have permits valid for 30 years, there are those who decide to return contractual areas depending on the resources they expect to gain later. of the investments they make.
Diaza Lasta considered that in the future, the CRE governing body could re-explore the returned areas.
So far in 2024, five procedures for early termination of oil contracts have been initiated by the companies Carigali México Operation, Servicios Múltiples de Burgos, another contractual area of Eni México, Shell Exploración y Extracción de México and Murphy Sur.
