After high temperatures caused the collapse of fishing in Yucatán, now the intense rains affected and caused economic losses to this important sector of the economy in the state.

In this regard, the president of the Federation of Fishing Cooperative Societies of the Western Center of the State, Mariano Canul Uicab, pointed out that for more than a week the coastal and high-altitude fishermen have been inactive due to the bad weather conditions.

In addition, he indicated that the high temperatures and rains have generated economic losses of 10 million pesos, a situation that could become complicated if the downpours continue, especially if storms occur.

He also said that this week they stopped fishing about 500 tons and “there are 10 million pesos that were stopped coming in during these days that there was no fishing.” The fishing leader indicated that the remnants of tropical storm “Alberto” left strong winds in Yucatan and waves up to three meters high, “but now there is another low pressure that will bring more rain, which will keep the ports closed to maritime navigation.”
