Former British ambassador to Mexico dismissed for pointing a gun at an employee

Jon Benjamin, the former British ambassador to Mexico, was dismissed for pointing a long gun at one of his employees during a tour in Durango and Sinaloa.

British media report that the incident occurred a few weeks ago and the diplomat has since been removed from office, however, the images have been released in recent days.

The British Embassy in Mexico has not appointed an official replacement for the Ambassador, but has announced that Jon Benjamin is no longer part of the team and that Rachel Brazier, the chargé d’affaires, is currently in charge.

Benjamin is a 35-year career diplomat who headed the Diplomatic Academy in London and was responsible for designing a program to teach “the diplomatic and linguistic skills needed to implement UK foreign policy.” Before serving in Mexico, he represented the UK in Chile, Ghana, Turkey, Indonesia and the United States.
