“This is life in this place, between laughter, hugs, games, that’s how they are all day,” says the director of the site, Xóchitl Delgado Caballero, who recalled that the House for the Elderly celebrated its first year on May 22. service and was built at the initiative of the re-elected mayor, Edwin Bojórquez Ramírez.
Until May, the number of seniors who attend regularly is 394. In one year, 9,312 breakfasts and 10,024 lunches have been distributed, in addition to 721 doctor consultations, 106 psychological, 82 nutrition, 757 nursing, 128 therapy sessions, and 80 dental consultations, according to the Director of the Home for the Elderly, Xochitl Caballero.
Xóchitl Caballero also said that if there is something that “fills them with great joy, it is seeing the change in life in many of the older adults. Many of the people who come to this place arrived in wheelchairs or walkers and today, thanks to the work of the therapists, they have left their orthopedic devices, and many even dance now.
He explained that in this place older adults are allowed to grow and learn new things with the various workshops that are taught, including embroidery, knitting, textile painting, as well as dancing classes of Jarana, and Zumba, and other activities such as balloon twisting and music workshops.
She also mentioned that many of them are taught to make desserts, cupcakes, or sweets. She pointed out that on Mother’s Day, the grandmothers were given treatment at a SPA, which was a wonderful experience and unknown to most of them.
In addition, group activities are carried out, such as reading circles, meditation exercises, and yoga.
The staff of the Home for the Elderly goes to visit them when they observe that the older adults have not attended in one or two weeks and they are asked the reason for their absence.
In addition, the doctor who treats them also gives them talks on breast cancer, pap smears, and prostate cancer.
