In the municipality of Tizimín, there is an archaeological area that was recently explored making important findings, however, it is now abandoned and is not yet open to the public.
This is the Kulubá archaeological zone, whose exploration was completed by archaeologists two years ago and it had been said that it would open its doors in 2023, but it remains closed and abandoned.
At the time, the INAH delegate in Yucatán, Arturo Chab Cárdenas, declared to the EFE agency that “the exploration and research work has already been completed, now we are in the analysis stage of the artifacts and materials found, such as ceramics, obsidian, shell, and 29 bones from burials,” he pointed out.
Chab Cárdenas explained that after the explorations Kulubá now has a total of five Mayan palaces.
“Now, Kulubá has five Palaces: the Mascarones, the U, the Chenes, and the recently discovered ones of the Pilares and the Occupation of the Itzáes.”
