If approved, the rates would be lower than the payment at Benito Juarez, which would be something competitive and would allow for greater participation.

After pressure from transporters, a proposal will be made to reduce the rates at the Tulum International Airport, Felipe Carrillo Puerto, something that will be presented in a meeting in the first weeks of June, before the Board of Directors of the air terminal.

Sergio Gonzalez Rubiera, president of the Mexican Association of Incoming Tourism Agencies, explained that if approved, the fees would be even lower than the payment at the Cancun Airport, allowing greater participation for summer vacations.

“The meeting will be held between June 16 and 20. This is because, since the start of operations at the air terminal, there are two types of payments, a daily one that is 800 pesos plus VAT per unit and trip, as well as a monthly charge that amounts to 4,300 pesos, considered too expensive”, explained González Rubiera.

The Tulum airport opened its doors in December with domestic flights and since March it has had international flights and this allows them to have greater operations. What is currently being charged is so that the unit can have access to the platforms of the federal zone of the airport, which in the case of Cancun amounts to no more than 60 pesos.
