Currently, 9 airlines and 19 routes are operating at the Mérida International Airport with 204 weekly national and 33 international frequencies, and 41,092 seats available on weekly arrival flights.

The State Government, through the Tourism Promotion Secretariat (Sefotur) headed by Michelle Fridman Hirsch, establishes as a priority the Tourism Decentralization Plan, to which they have given great importance during the almost 6 years of administration, managing to bring the benefits of the tourism industry to the different regions of the state, thus helping to stimulate the social and economic development of the inhabitants of the state; as well as, positioning the entity as a tourist reference in the southeast of Mexico.

The owner of Sefotur has highlighted the fact that today, it is possible to say that Yucatan is a destination for everyone, with an infinite tourist offer that is strengthened by the greatness of its identity, traditions, customs, history, gastronomy and culture, characteristics that have allowed them to take advantage of to promote decentralized, sustainable and inclusive tourism, and at the same time, allow them to preserve the environment.

It should be noted that during the management by Fridman Hirsch, the destination has stood out thanks to the initiatives and the development of successful promotional campaigns at the national and international level, which have resulted in a historic increase in industry figures, such as the case of the arrival of visitors to the state.

It is important to highlight that this administration has faced great challenges never seen before, such as the contingency due to Covid 19, a situation that they were able to face through the actions taken at the time, such as the creation of the 365-day campaign in Yucatán. , with which domestic tourism was promoted among the population “without leaving home”, achieving the recovery of pre-pandemic indicators.

Likewise, these types of actions, carried out with the support of the private sector, have maintained the increase in the figures of the industry indicators, annually exceeding their expectations, which has resulted in a historic rise in all tourism indicators, Such is the case of the increase in the supply of tourism products, going from having 60 new tourism products registered in 2018 to 216 in 2024, which is equivalent to a 260 percent increase in new products.

It is necessary to mention that the results of the coordinated work between the public and private sectors of this administration have led to increasing the supply of tourist products and services in the state, growing approximately 8 percentage points, going from the 44.6 percent registered in 2018. -when the current administration began-, at 53.3 percent until April 2024.

It is worth remembering that in 2018, before this administration, Mérida concentrated 56% of the supply of tourist products and services, while currently (2024), it only concentrates 46.4% of them, thus showing that tourism has left to concentrate on the Yucatecan capital to reach other locations.
