The National Commission for the Protection and Defense of Users of Financial Services (Condusef) indicated that, in Yucatán, in the first half of 2024, six thousand complaints have been registered for alleged bank fraud.

The representative of the Condusef in Yucatán, Alberto Pinto Escamilla, indicated that these frauds have increased because scammers send emails and messages on social networks, which deceive the banking user. Still, they must not provide personal data and must verify with the banking institution if the call is legit.

Likewise, he pointed out that citizens must activate their mobile banking alerts to receive notifications of the movements recorded in their accounts.

The majority of complaints in Yucatán are against multiple banks, which allegedly offer credit and debit cards and record transfers and charges that the client does not recognize, said

He warned that older adults are the number one victims of these deceptions since it is difficult for them to use technology. Therefore, Condusef recommends going to the branches to have their movements and account statements printed. The federal official recommended that when this problem arises, it must be reported to the bank and sent to Condusef. This institution assures that they solve 65% of the complaints in favor of the bank user.
