Citizens confirm that there is a crocodile in Merida’s “Parque Hundido”

Following a citizen’s report of a crocodile in the Parque Ecológico del Poniente, the presence of the specimen has been confirmed.

Upon visiting the so-called Parque Hunido “sunken park”, whose pond, is located in the western sector of the public space, the crocodile’s presence was confirmed. The croc was sighted while perched on a rock.

The specimen would be a juvenile, as its size makes it clear, in addition to the fact that it does not seem to conflict with the other fauna that inhabits this pond, where turtles, fish, and birds converge, mainly ducks.

It is unknown how this crocodile reached that side of the park, which is not close to the swamp, the usual home of these reptiles, so it is presumed it could have been left in this space by someone.

Until now, the municipal authorities have not reported whether they already knew of the specimen’s existence and whether there will be any plan to keep it in place or relocate it to another space.
