The goal of 600,000 trees, which was greatly exceeded to reach one million, is the product of the promotion of the State Government through strategies such as “Arborizing Yucatán” with which it has been possible to increase forest coverage in the state with “One Child, One Tree” that was implemented in all public elementary schools in the state so that the students could have a program where topics of culture and environmental education are developed.
To date, this program has managed to cover a total of 751 schools with whom together 132,749 plants have been planted, representing more than 398 hectares.
With the “Sustainable School” program, the only one of its kind at the regional level, in the last 5 years it has reached more than 88 municipalities and recognized 261 educational centers, resulting in more than 60 thousand students, teachers, and educational personnel, now committed to the environment.
Also, the strategy “Arborizing Yucatán in your University” was promoted, where the participation of young university students has been reinforced, visiting all the universities in the state, contributing to actions to continue transforming the state into a greener Yucatán.
The Network of Sustainable Universities (REDUS) was implemented in the search to recognize and promote actions and efforts regarding sustainability of the higher education institutions of Yucatán to promote new projects and actions with a vision towards sustainable development in the State since it works through a collaborative digital platform.
Currently, the scheme has the participation of 22 university campuses, 46,371 students, and 3,776 volunteers, with whom a total of 3,606 trees have been planted, in this scheme alone.
Also, the State Government has contemplated a vegetation management plan with actions to protect it and in very specific cases relocate it, an example of this is the route of more than 129 kilometers of the Ie-Tram project, applied in all sections, among other works, as well as the section that goes on 39th Street from the Peripheral Ring to the Gran Parque de la Plancha, which included the planting of a total of 2 thousand trees.
