Given the arrival of Hurricane “Beryl” to the Yucatan Peninsula, an evacuation plan was activated in priority areas of Quintana Roo, such as the island of Holbox, whose citizens have already evacuated.
Through social media, Governor Mara Lezama announced the municipalities of the entity that will be evacuated and their inhabitants transferred to nearby shelters to protect themselves during the contingency.
On social media, the authorities of Quintana Roo reported that the population of Holbox will evacuate the island voluntarily.
The governor indicated that in coordination with the State Civil Protection System and the company ‘Barcos Holbox Express,’ they authorized the free departure of their boats for the evacuation.
The departures began on the morning of July 4 and will finish at 2 in the afternoon for anyone who voluntarily wished to leave the island.
Starting this Wednesday, the evacuation plan began for areas of Quintana Roo that could be affected by the passage of Hurricane “Beryl” such as Othón P. Blanco, Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Tulum, and Lázaro Cárdenas.
According to the governor, in Felipe Carrillo Puerto the residents of María Elena Island and Punta Herrero have already been evacuated.
In Tulum, Punta Allen was evacuated from 3 in the afternoon on Wednesday, July 3. Also in Othón P. Blanco, the evacuation will be carried out from Xcalak to Mahahual, during the afternoon.
In Holbox, there will be free crossings by shipping companies, taking them from Chiquilá to Kantunilkín.
Meganews reported that the Mayan Train workers will receive support to move to schools set up as shelters, located in Tulum, Felipe Carrillo Puerto, and Chetumal.
Given the threat of Hurricane “Beryl”, the population in vulnerable areas is recommended to go to one of the 120 shelters, in urban and rural areas, located in Quintana Roo which has a capacity for 23,465 people.
