Chicxulub Puerto and Progreso fishermen began protecting their boats in various spaces before Hurricane “Beryl” arrived.
In the case of the beach, the seamen, equipped with ropes and borrowed trucks, dragged their boats to higher areas, who assured that they had not yet been told where to put them.
“They were supposed to give us a place, but so far nothing. To be looking at last-minute things, well that is no longer good, it is better to see it in advance. Since they have not given us a space, we have to see how we do it.”
“Right now, we are going to load the boats and see how it goes,” said a fisherman who was at the site.
He stressed that, in any case, even if they got a space in the marinas or the sheltered port, nothing ensured that their ships would be safe because if the phenomenon hit with great force, they would shake with the risk of being destroyed.
On the other hand, the fishermen of Chicxulub Puerto also moved to protect their vessels in the parking area of the Jurassic Trail park, a space that used to place some boats and maneuver them with trailers to put them into the swamp, where a ramp was built to this end.
During the afternoon, the City Council reported that those who wished could take their boats to the Idealización baseball field and the Chicxulub Puerto baseball field, on 26th Street. At this community, it was agreed that if the 400 boats do not find space in the shelters, the esplanade could be occupied.
