A well-known catering company from Mérida is involved in controversy since the food they offered allegedly caused an outbreak of gastroenteritis among hundreds of attendees at the UADY Faculty of Psychology graduation last weekend.
On Saturday, July 20th, around 1,200 people attended the graduation of the students of the Faculty of Psychology of the 2019-2024 generation. The party took place without any problems, and the graduates, along with their friends and family, left the Siglo XXI Convention Center, where the event took place.
The problem came later when hundreds of attendees began to present stomach problems such as dizziness, vomiting, and diarrhea, so many, already alarmed, attended clinics and hospitals where they were diagnosed with gastroenteritis, among other conditions.
The sick continued to fall throughout Sunday and even Monday, and according to student reports, there would have been up to 300 sick attendees.
So far neither the student organizations, which are commonly in charge of these events, nor the caterer identified as “Poconos” have commented on the matter, however, it emerged that the company would have already had an approach with those affected.
