The National Human Rights Commission (CNDH) directed Recommendation 82/2024 to the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS), to repair the damage to family members of a woman who died due to deficient care in medical institutions in Yucatán.
The autonomous body reported that it confirmed violations of the human rights of a female beneficiary, who did not receive the necessary medical attention at the Regional General Hospital number 12 “Lic. Benito Juárez García” of Mérida and the Family Medicine Unit with Hospitalization number 19 of Hunucmá, both of the IMSS in the state of Yucatán, after suffering a car accident.
He recalled that on May 20, 2023, the victim was heading in a vehicle to the Regional General Hospital to attend a scheduled appointment and suffered a car accident, for which she was treated at this clinic and referred to the Family Medicine Unit for its follow-up.
The CNDH pointed out that according to medical specialists from the National Commission, the victim received deficient care because the health personnel failed to collect important data about the accident, such as its magnitude and the place it occupied in the vehicle; Furthermore, the study protocol was not expanded, nor were biochemical and laboratory tests requested on time, nor were they referred to the Pulmonology service; deficiencies among others that contributed to her physical deterioration and subsequent death.
He pointed out that the analysis of the case allowed the accreditation of violations of human rights to the protection of health and life to the detriment of the victim; as well as access to health information to the detriment of four indirect victims; responsibility attributable to public servants of both health agencies.
