More than 30 animals were poisoned in the García Ginerés neighborhood

Residents of the García Ginerés neighborhood of Mérida would present the corresponding complaints to the State Attorney General Office (FGE) in the case of the animals that appeared dead on Tuesday, July 2.

In the area, some women said they were outraged by the events; however, as of Wednesday afternoon, no complaints had been filed with the authorities. Despite the above, the FGE indicated that they are already working on the issue and investigating what happened. However, a complaint is imperative to prosecute the culprit.

In the area, a woman who asked that her statement be anonymous stated that the bodies of the animals began to appear around 9:30 in the morning.

“We found the first kitten on the sidewalk, it was dead, it was white. At that moment we called the City Council to come to look for it, which never came. Then in desperation, because we saw that there was another dead cat across the street, there were two opossums that were carrying about 10 babies each, and all of them died. We called the Prosecutor’s Office, they told us that “We had to file a report and we chose to call 911 and they were the ones who helped us.”

The woman explained that within minutes agents of the state police arrived and requested the presence of the FGE.

While waiting, residents of the area started reporting other dead animals, in total there were five cats, one dog, and three opossums with about 10 babies each, so there would have been more than 30 dead animals.

One of the Garcia Gineres residents stated that obviously, there is someone poisoning animals. The woman declared that she and her daughter would file complaints to begin an investigation.

“This is terrible, finding 30 dead animals, in the end, they are living beings too,” she noted.

María, another Garcia Gineres neighbor, said she was worried and afraid of what happened. He commented that she moved her pet, a boxer that she kept on her terrace, to the backyard of his house due to the uncertainty that someone could poison it.

Residents agreed that it was a strange case because in the many years that they have lived in the area this had only happened once and they discovered who was doing it.
