The president of the National Chamber of Commerce, Services and Tourism of Mérida (Canacome), Levy Abraham Macari, stated that there is sufficient stock of basic consumer products in the distribution centers of the entity’s commercial chains, so the supply is guaranteed.

However, he called on citizens to avoid panic buying, highlighting the importance of staying calm and buying rationally so as not to generate shortages and cause some families to resent the lack of products.

“We have had reports of a moderate increase in sales in self-service stores. However, we have not observed alarming spikes,” he commented.

The leader of the organized merchants of the city of Mérida explained that although some stores have empty shelves, this is mainly because some people have bought a little more of certain products.

“Self-service chains have been working in coordination with their distribution centers to solve this increase in purchases,” he said.

Abraham Macari stressed that consumers must buy rationally. “If people buy a little more than they need, like for a few extra days, the distribution chains can handle that increase.”
