Profepa temporarily “closes” the statue of Poseidon in Progreso, Yucatán

For not showing the environmental impact authorization from the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, inspectors from the Federal Environmental Protection Agency (Profepa) imposed the temporary closure of the statue of Poseidon in Progreso.

Profepa points out that the environmental authority determined to establish this security measure because the structure was installed in spaces of seawater, 25 meters from the coastline, offshore from the beach.

The Progreso City Council placed the statue of Poseidon in front of the port’s International Promenade, right in front of a basketball court named after the Greek deity.

The Environmental Protection Representative Office in Yucatán will continue with the administrative procedure to determine the appropriate actions. Until the night of July 11, the Progreso City Council had not issued a position on the matter.
