Return to everyday life in Mérida after the passing of Beryl

Like any other Saturday, this is how the city of Mérida looked the day after the passage of “Beryl” which, although it threatened to have a strong impact, in the end, everything was reduced to drizzle and some wind.

The shops reopened, the parks welcomed people again, and the vehicular traffic was intense at times, although, at least until before noon, it could be said that it was quite fluid.

The only traces of the cyclone’s passage were some windows still with tape or water tanks secured with ropes, and there were no puddles or flooded streets or fallen poles or trees, the Sun even shone early.

During the morning on Paseo de Montejo and some parts of the Center, it was still possible to see businesses with their windows “secured” with tape, in others employees removed the boards that covered glass panels.

The commercial movement was continuous, with people coming and going, the clothing stores, the shoe stores… It was not that much, compared to a fortnight weekend, but it was enough taking into account the storm.

As always, the market area was where you could see the most people, as well as the surrounding streets.

The day was normal, as the works were resumed in the Plaza Grande, which were suspended after the announcement of the arrival of “Beryl”.

In the “Emilio Seijo” passage, Ancha del Bazar street, and “Eulogio Rosado” park there was a continuous flow of people, in the latter place, at noon, a group of tourists could be seen touring the area.

Merida’s daily life had returned with everything and its characters: the newspaper seller, the corn seller, the beggars… all in their usual place, in step with the people who did their things as if “Beryl” had never existed.
