Mérida will host the second edition of the Mérida Open AKRON, which will be held from October 28 to November 3 at the Yucatán Country Club, with a purse of 280 thousand dollars to be distributed.

With a new date on the calendar, the event, with a 250 category, will offer a first-class event, said Gustavo Santoscoy García, director of the tournament and of GS Sports Management “Our commitment is to have an edition with the best rackets and that the experience for players and fans is unforgettable.”

In the first edition, the Italian Camila Giorgi was proclaimed champion after beating Rebecca Peterson in a three-set final. Names such as Sloane Stephens, Katerina Siniakova, Camila Osorio and Alycia Parks also appeared in the main draw.

Yucatán Country Club will once again host this great sporting event, providing all the facilities to carry out this second edition of the Mérida Open AKRON.

The tournament already has recognition within the WTA calendar.

The stadium will have a capacity for 3,500 fans and two alternate courts to contest the event. The excellent facilities within the Yucatán Country Club were a determining factor in making it possible for the event to remain in 2024, in addition to the interest of the WTA and the Octagon sports events company.

This is the return of the Merida Open, on a larger scale. Tennis has a lot of history in Yucatán and having a tournament of this level again serves to position Mérida and the entire state of Yucatán, and put Mexico in the eyes of the world.
