The Employers’ Confederation of the Mexican Republic (Coparmex) Quintana Roo and the Tourism Promotion Council of Quintana Roo (CPTQ) met yesterday to establish collaboration mechanisms, to promote medical tourism, as a way to diversify the region’s economy.
Angélica Frías González, president of Coparmex in the state, indicated that the objective is to create a solid product that allows more international patients to be received in specific medical areas.
During the meeting, it was mentioned that 70% of international patients who visit Cancun for medical tourism return for recreational tourism, with a stay of up to 11 nights, much longer than the average three-day stay of the traditional tourist.
While the average economic income of a traditional tourist varies between $1,300 and $1,500, the income of a patient during the days they stay in the destination ranges from $11,500 to $13,000.
The leader of Coparmex highlighted the importance of the joint effort to position Quintana Roo as a leading destination in medical tourism, to offer high quality services to patients from all over the world.
