Given the threat of the impact of Hurricane Beryl, the head of Civil Protection of Yucatán (Procivy), Enrique Alcocer Basto, declared that in the State there is a network of two thousand temporary shelters and that the State Government has emergency and disaster fund for 15 million pesos for first response.

He indicated that, of the two thousand existing temporary shelters, 40 are directly managed by the State Government, because they are in risk areas, such as the coast and the Southern Cone of the state, areas susceptible to flooding due to excess rainfall.

The state official mentioned that the ones administered by the State are those where people are regularly taken in case of evacuation and the rest of the temporary shelters are managed by the municipalities, in addition to the fact that the network can be consulted on the website of the State government, to see the characteristics of each property.

Regarding the Yucatecan capital, Civil Protection of Mérida indicated that there are a total of 64 temporary shelters, of which 47 are located in each of the city’s police stations, while the remaining 17 are located in colonies and subdivisions whose surroundings are considered risk areas.

Each municipal shelter has a kitchen area, dining room, large bedrooms to accommodate entire families, and common areas. The capacity of each shelter varies between 60 and 70 people.
