Firefighters from the Ministry of Public Security (SSP) rescued two people trapped in the elevator of a pedestrian bridge in the Anillo Periférico of Mérida.
The incident occurred minutes before 8 in the morning on the bridge located at kilometer 47, near the Tixcacal Hacienda. According to the authorities, the people used the bridge to go from one side of the Periférico to the other. They took the elevator, which got stuck when it was a few meters from the solid ground, leaving the two people trapped.
Upon noticing that the elevator was no longer working, people called 911 for help. Police officers and firefighters from the SSP arrived.
The firefighters forced the elevator to rescue the people. A few moments later, a technician arrived and restarted the elevator to rescue the people.
The users were inside the elevator for about 20 minutes. The elevators were closed with yellow tape to prevent them from being used and prevent other people from being trapped.
A similar incident happened last March 28, when a woman got trapped in the elevator of the pedestrian bridge located at kilometer 45 of the Periférico. On that occasion, the woman was trapped for 40 minutes as the firefighters waited for a State government worker to arrive to open the elevator with a key.
