Yucatán and Finland continue to strengthen bilateral relations

The ambassador of the Republic of Finland in Mexico, Ari Mäki, expressed the desire of the Government of her country to strengthen the bilateral relationship with Yucatán, given Finland’s interest in the investment, development, and education projects in the “Land of the Mayab”.

The head of the General Secretariat of Government (SGG), María Fritz Sierra, representing Governor Mauricio Vila Dosal, received the Finnish diplomat at the headquarters of the state government, who, within the framework of his participation in the Smart City Expo Latam Congress, makes his first official visit to Yucatán, after having assumed his position in September 2023.

In addition to meeting with the Secretary General of the Government, the ambassador of the Republic of Finland in Mexico also met with the head of the Ministry of Research, Innovation and Higher Education (SIIES), Mauricio Cámara Leal, and with officials from the secretariats of Sustainable Development (SDS) and Economic Development and Work (Sefoet).

During the meetings, they discussed topics of great mutual interest in areas such as education, sustainability, and also the opportunities that Yucatán offers in terms of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI).

In this context, they presented the competitive advantages, legal certainty, land, sea, and air connectivity, supply chain, infrastructure, human talent, and security that position Yucatan as an excellent option on the global scene for FDI.

These advantages have made it possible to attract investments from all economic sectors such as textile, aerospace, logistics services, real estate, tourism, agro-industrial, automotive, and aeronautical projects, among others, with the arrival of large companies such as Accenture, Walmart Group, Tesla, Augusta Sportswear, Invincible Boats, Ace Hardware, PCC Airfoils, Amazon, and others.

Regarding the projects that are putting eyes on the entity for its transformation and development, Fritz Sierra pointed out that, currently, the state government is promoting strategic projects, a result of the governor’s efforts before the Federation that will allow Yucatán to bring more economic development and thousands of jobs.

During the meeting with the Secretary General of the Government and the Finnish diplomat, they discussed achievements in education, highlighting the participation of young Yucatecan girls in learning science and new technologies, thanks to the various programs and work that is carried out, for example, to incorporate more and more women into engineering. Finally, the Finnish Ambassador in Mexico highlighted the tourism potential in Yucatán while expressing his interest in visiting places such as Las Coloradas in Río Lagartos, for which the official invited him to return to the state with more time on your agenda to be able to visit that and many other attractions.
