They hope that the slow start to tourism in the summer holiday will not be prolonged, since there are good expectations for the season this year.

Although the summer vacations began with a small “hiccup” due to weather conditions, the Mexican Association of Yucatan Hotels (AMHY) considers that there are good expectations for the following weekends, when a greater influx of visitors is expected to begin. in Mérida, magical towns, and the Yucatecan coast.

The president of the AMHY, Juan José Martín Pacheco, reported that in the city all hotel services operate at 100 percent and announced that the following weekend we will begin to see a greater flow of tourists in the streets and different tourist sites. Of the entity.

Martín Pacheco recalled that until last June there were reservations of between 45 to 49 percent and last week the indicators were still a little low, although it is estimated that the situation will improve in the coming days.

“We hope that this weekend we will have good occupancy, and around Wednesday the 24th we will be giving data on this first high weekend for us, in terms of vacations,” he noted.

In an interview, the business leader stressed that tourist activity is already observed at the “Licenciado Manuel Crescencio Rejón” Mérida International Airport (MID), which is already operating at 100 percent.

Martín Pacheco considered that with the activation of the tourist and gastronomic corridor on 60th Street, it will be possible to have better occupancy since during the work there were just over 1,500 blocked rooms, which have already been released and it is an investment that will allow to the hotel industry to provide better conditions and services.

He highlighted that hoteliers have worked hard on the quality of service and attention to passengers and although they have begun to compete with Airbnb differently, it has been made clear that digital platforms only offer a room and that’s it, while hotels provide attention and quality service.
