According to the Monthly Indicator of Industrial Activity by the Federal Entity of the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), Yucatán is among the states that registered the most significant increase in its industrial production in real terms during the third month of the year, along with Quintana Roo, Durango, Hidalgo, and Oaxaca.
The report, published this July 9, states that Yucatán had a growth in its industrial production of 1.3%, compared to last February and 8.2% compared to March 2023.
It is striking that Yucatán grew in the mining sector, ranking third nationally in percentage growth compared to March last year. In this sense, Baja California rose by 19.2%, Michoacán by 13.6%, and Yucatán by 12.5%.
According to the Ministry of Economy, in Yucatán, the non-metallic minerals exploited are sand, clay, limestone, gravel, dimensional rocks, salt, gypsum, and stone aggregates.
Another area in which Yucatán stands out is the construction sector, since in the month of reference, its production grew by 22.5%, placing it in eighth place nationally.
However, the INEGI points out that, in terms of generation, transmission, distribution, and marketing of electrical energy, supply of water and natural gas through pipelines to the final consumer, the increases stood out in Quintana Roo, Nayarit, Tabasco, State of Mexico and Gentleman. Yucatán had negative numbers in this area, with a minus 2.2% production compared to March 2023.
Likewise, there was a 5.4% decrease in production in the manufacturing industry compared to the previous year.
In Construction, the most relevant increases occurred in Quintana Roo, Durango, Hidalgo, Baja California, Chihuahua, and Campeche. Oaxaca, Quintana Roo, Veracruz, Baja California Sur, Tamaulipas, and Tlaxcala recorded an advance in manufacturing industries. According to official figures, Yucatán has remained one of those with the highest economic growth, registering an accumulated growth of 4.47%, higher than the national average of 3.5% during the first months of 2024.
