Yucatán once again becomes the center of urban and territorial transformation in Latin America

Yucatán once again became the venue for the most important event of urban and territorial transformation in Latin America in favor of more intelligent and sustainable environments, the Smart City Expo Latam Congress, held in Mérida for the fifth consecutive year.

The event is taking place at the Yucatán Siglo XXI Convention Center, where the CEO of Fira Barcelona International, Ricard Zapatero Camps, led the start of this event from July 9 to 11, which in its 2024 edition brings together more than 300 cities and municipalities of various countries; over 100 Mayors; more than 100 institutions and companies, as well as 50 media outlets and more than 300 speakers.

In this framework, the president of PRONUS, Manuel Redondo Peralta, recognized Yucatan for its capacity for teamwork and commitment to building better environments, as these are characteristics that are valued and are still lacking in the region, which has made it today Our state is an example of coordination and that it is possible throughout Mexico, Latin America, and the world.

Redondo Peralta thanked Governor Mauricio Vila Dosal for the leadership he has shown these years by hosting the Smart City Congress in Yucatán and turning the region into the epicenter of urban innovation in Mexico, allowing the region to learn from this land and its identity. and contributing to better societies for the people.

This edition of the meeting will feature presentations by great personalities such as the Nobel Peace Prize winner Muhammad Yunus and the Mexican Rafa Jaime, the first blind Ibero-American mountaineer to reach the summit of Everest.

It should be noted that, in this edition, there will be the “Latam Smart City Awards”, which will recognize companies, universities, governments, research centers, institutions, and entrepreneurs in various categories, such as Latam City, Digital Transformation, Urban Development Sustainable and Mobility, and Equitable and Collaborative Society.

Finally, the Governor thanked Fira Barcelona and PRONUS for their trust in Yucatán and invited attendees to learn about the strategic projects that are being carried out in the state and will be presented within the framework of the Smart City Expo Latam Congress, such as the construction of new combined cycle power plants, the expansion of the natural gas pipeline, the Wellbeing Pole and the modernization of the Progreso Deep Sea Port.
