Governor Mauricio Vila Dosal announced new tourism investments, which bring the total to more than 45 billion pesos invested in the sector in Yucatan during his administration.
Yucatan continues to generate confidence for the arrival of new capital and consolidates itself as an important hub for tourism investment, after Governor Mauricio Vila Dosal announced 21 new projects for the state, which already add up to more than 45 billion pesos in investments for the sector during his administration, generating more and better sources of employment for Yucatecans.
At an event held at the International Congress Center (CIC), Vila Dosal highlighted that the arrival of these new tourism projects for 16,825 million pesos, which will leave an economic spillover not only in Mérida but in the interior of the state, in municipalities such as Tixkokob, Temax, Tekit, Valladolid, Cuzamá, Tekantó, Sisal, Hunucmá, Espita, Tecoh, Tinum and Dzemul, Yucatán is among the first 4 positions in the national ranking with the highest investment in the sector.
In the presence of the head of the State Secretariat for Tourism Development (Sefotur), Michelle Fridman Hirsch, the Governor recounted the work in the matter that has been done throughout his administration, whose data in 2018 report that there was an economic tourist spillover of 7,055 million pesos, as opposed to today which is 12,869 million pesos.
Vila Dosal highlighted that, in terms of connectivity, Yucatán went from having eight national routes to 14 national routes and from having four international routes to nine international routes, which were added to the routes to Orlando and Los Angeles announced a few days ago. Also the remodeling of the boardwalks of Río Lagartos, Dzilam de Bravo, and Progreso; of main squares in municipalities such as Tekax, Kanasín, Tizimín, Celestún, and Panabá.
In addition, he said, that 2023 was the year that the most tourists were received in the history of Yucatán, also with the greatest tourist economic spillover, the safest year in history, with the lowest poverty and extreme poverty rate; as well as the lowest illiteracy rate and the year with the highest amount of foreign investment in the history of Yucatán.
Likewise, he recalled, this 2024 has been the year with the most formal jobs in the history of Yucatán, as well as the highest average daily salary in history. “There are many things left to do, I think we are on the right path, I thank all of you who have been part of it because the government does not do this alone, it does this together with the citizens and the businessmen of the tourism sector who have always been allies to promote the economic and cultural development of Yucatan,” he stressed.
In his turn, Braulio Arsuaga Losada, president of the National Tourism Business Council (CNET), acknowledged that it is its security and economic stability that make Yucatan a special place for investment; in addition to having excellent figures in terms of security, remaining as a national leader with the lowest crime rate, which not only reflects the commitment of local authorities to the security of the population and provides the necessary confidence to develop long-term projects.
“We agree that this state is not only positioned as a first-class tourist destination but also represents an exemplary model of collaboration between the private sector and the government,” he reaffirmed.
In her turn, the head of Sefotur explained that, as of July 2024, the registry already has more than 300 projects, with an estimated investment of 45 billion pesos, of which the city of Mérida occupies 47% of this investment, while the interior of the state registers 53%.
With 51.6% of tourism investments already underway and 48.4% of investments in the process of execution, this results in a percentage growth of around 252% compared to the first investment announcement in August 2019.
