A man mobilized the State Police while trying to flee with a stolen vehicle in the Las Américas subdivision of Mérida.

The events occurred on Sunday 18 night when a report came to 911 of a Chevrolet Aveo car stolen in said northwest subdivision.

Police sources indicated that the alleged thief’s name is Daniel, 28 years old and from Guanajuato, who stole the vehicle and drove it along the Periférico.

After passing the bridge near Caucel, he collided with a tractor-trailer but did not stop. An officer noticed the stolen car and tried to stop the driver of the Aveo, but he ignored the instructions.

The chase continued and advanced several kilometers, at least four, until at kilometer 46, on the curve near the entrance to the Tixcacal-Opichen subdivision, the man lost control of the steering wheel and crashed into the retaining wall.

At that moment, the police officer parked his vehicle next to the car to prevent the driver from getting out until reinforcements arrived. However, the alleged thief opened the door of the Aveo, causing damage to the police unit, and then tried to flee by jumping over the police car, so he went over the hood, also leaving damage to that part of the official vehicle.

Despite everything, they arrested the man. Paramedics indicated that it was not necessary to transfer him to a hospital. The detainee was sent to jail and would later be at the disposal of the Prosecutor’s Office, where he would answer for the theft and the damage caused to both the stolen vehicle and the patrol car.

Another police unit arrived at the scene, containing the owner of the car, who recognized Daniel as the person who stole it.
