Cecilia Patrón, the elected mayor recognizes that tourism represents a broad economic spillover for hundreds of Merida residents who offer a variety of products and services to visitors.
Mérida, Yucatán, (August 27, 2024).- “Tourism will be a tool of social justice from the Mérida City Council, where it will have a strong push because it represents a broad economic spillover for hundreds of citizens”, said the elected mayor Cecilia Patrón Laviada.
In this way, she announced the creation of the Tourism Unit and who would be its head, Armando Casares Espinosa, at the proposal of representatives of the sector.
“When a visitor comes to Mérida, the money he/she spends is distributed among the waiter, the taxi driver, the hotelier, the artisan, the restaurateur, the waiter, and a wide variety of service providers and product suppliers, and therefore the importance of promoting Mérida in Mexico and abroad,” declared Cecilia Patrón.
She shared the intention of establishing synergy with members of the sector so that the City Council offers training to citizens and tourists to guarantee that they have employment options.
“We will seek to ensure that the people of Mérida are increasingly better prepared to meet the needs of conventions, destination weddings, boutique hotels, gourmet restaurants, and other services that have specific needs and that mean better salaries,” the elected mayor continued.
She also stated that in a new way of governing, he will seek to ensure that the tourist vision permeates the different areas of the City Council such as culture and infrastructure, so that they consider the needs of tourists.
