A construction project was shut down by municipal authorities in the Santa Gertrudis Copó neighborhood in northern Merida, as the works did not count with the corresponding permits.

The construction project in Santa Gertrudis Copó was halted due to a lack of necessary permits. Commissioner Leidy Cocom Valencia visited the local authorities and found no evidence of proper authorization for the project. The property transfer was conducted outside Mérida, which has raised concerns about unchecked urban growth and its impact on the quality of life in the area.

Commissioner Cocom emphasized that the residents of Santa Gertrudis Copó should be consulted on any projects within their territory. She criticized the lack of consultation by municipal governments, businesses, and developers, stating that it has diminished the residents’ quality of life. The construction project was halted due to Article 10, Section I of the Mérida Municipal Administrative Acts and Procedures Regulations.

The authorities placed closure seals and a summons at the site, valid until September 30. SDS notifier Juan Carlos Sarmiento Pérez conducted an inspection but was unable to find the required person or legal representative. The decision to halt construction was based on the violation of construction regulations.
