A Dutch woman caused an accident on the morning of August 1 in the center of Mérida by not obeying a stop sign and colliding with a bus from the Va y Ven system.

After the accident, the woman and her companion had problems communicating with witnesses and people who came to see the accident. “Do you speak English?” the tourist asked each person who approached.

According to police reports, the foreign tourist couple arrived in Mérida, rented a car, and headed to the beach.

The woman was driving the car on 34 Street in downtown Mérida. When she reached the intersection with 65 Street, she became distracted and did not see the stop sign.

When invading 65th Street with priority, a Va y Ven bus hit the car.

The crash forced the bus driver to brake suddenly, causing two female passengers to fall from their seats and suffer blows to various parts of their bodies.

The damage was not extensive, but the bus practically blocked 65th Street, which generated traffic problems because it is one of the main routes to the city center.

The foreigners were looking for a way to communicate with the company that rented them the vehicle and the insurance. They approached the people taking photographs of the accident to ask if anyone spoke English and if they could help them.

Finally, a young woman who was on the bus helped the tourists.

State Police agents used an application on one of their phones to start a conversation with the foreigners.

A state police ambulance arrived at the scene. The paramedics treated the injured, but none were required to transfer to a hospital.
