For the construction of new investment agreements, tourism, gastronomy, and cultural promotion, as well as academic exchange, the Governor-elect of Yucatan, Joaquín Díaz Mena received in his offices the ambassador of Portugal in Mexico, Manuel Carvalho.

The governor-elect spoke with the ambassador about the new investment opportunities that the Maya Renaissance Plan will mean for our State, with the modernization of Puerto Progreso, the connection of the Maya Train to the port and its upcoming cargo service; the interconnection with the Trans-Isthmus Train that opens important logistical opportunities, mainly with Asian markets and; the launching of Industrial Parks that will have Natural Gas, which will open the doors to new investments.

For his part, accompanied by Carlos Guillermo Aguirre Aguilar and Frank Sosa Candila, president and vice president of the Gastronomic Federation of Yucatan, the ambassador of Portugal expressed his interest in building bridges with the government of Díaz Mena to attract investment to his country, opening the doors to Yucatecan investors interested in extending their offer to the European country.

During the meeting, they also talked about the tourist opportunities that our state offers for the so-called “experience tourism”, which contrasts with the “Sun and Beach” offer that does not have the cultural and gastronomic wealth that Yucatan has for its visitors, discussing the possibility of exploring direct connectivity opportunities and the offer of the new railway system to introduce visitors to the “Mayan World”.

The ambassador reiterated his interest in building these bridges with the next governor of Yucatán, recalling that he visited our state as a tourist 20 years ago and that he recently accompanied President López Obrador at the inauguration of the Mayan Train, which is why, he said, the Yucatán of today “is part of the conversation” in his country, which makes the economic, tourist and cultural offer of our state of great interest.

Finally, Díaz Mena thanked the visit and reaffirmed his confidence that after October 1, a close bond of collaboration and friendship between Portugal and Yucatán will be consolidated, which will be reflected in investment and development opportunities for the well-being of both peoples.
