Justen A. Thomas arrived in Merida, Mexico on August 1, 2024, to assume duty as Consul General and Principal Officer of the United States for the consular district of Campeche, Quintana Roo, and Yucatan states.
Before his posting in Merida, Justen served as Public Diplomacy Officer at the U.S. Embassy in Madrid, Spain (2021-2024); Public Affairs Advisor at the U.S. Mission to International Organizations in Vienna, Austria (2018-2021); Deputy Public Affairs Officer at the U.S. Embassy Havana, Cuba (2016-2018); Director of the State Department’s Media Hub of the Americas in Miami, Florida (2013-2016); Staff Assistant in the State Department’s Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs in Washington, DC (2012-2013); Assistant Cultural Affairs Officer at the U.S. Embassy in Brasilia, Brazil (2010-2012); and Vice-Consul at the U.S. Embassy in Paris, France (2008-2010).
Justen graduated with Distinction from the University of Bristol (UK, 2006) with a Master of Science degree in International Development and with Honors from the University of Wisconsin-Madison (USA, 2003) with a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics, International Relations, and Spanish.
