On Thursday, August 8th, coastal fishermen based on the beach of the international boardwalk of Progreso, right next to the chocolate dock, expressed their dissatisfaction with something that happens to them during each vacation season.
According to them, with the arrival of vacationers, they face a difficult situation, since they usually get on the boats. If they are upside down, they lift them up and place logs to support them so they have shade.
The problem is that tourists often handle the boats without care, which damages them. For example, they break the edges, seats, and bottom of the boats.
Fisherman Eduardo Paredes indicated that, when this happens, the men of the sea must make repairs to their vessels for a day, which they lose by not being able to work and set sail.
Likewise, he said that the vacationers, to be comfortable in the boats, put their tarps, cut the lines, or throw the weights.
They have also noticed that they hang from the Jimbas, which are broken.
One of the fishermen said that it would cost him at least 1,500 pesos to fix his boat.
