The construction industry in Quintana Roo generates around 250 million dollars a year. Although inflation in the state increased by 15% in 2024 compared to 2023, said Javier Murillo Betancur, general director of Expo Deconarq (Development, construction, and architecture).
The same situation happens at the national and international level, he pointed out. He said the costs of raw materials rise since they import many like rods, concrete, pastes, additives, chemicals, glass, polyethylene, marble, and floors. However, the state keeps growing in investments.
“Fortunately, Quintana Roo has a solid economy. There are many hotels they keep building hotels, which generates direct jobs, and the supply chain they generate is multiplying,” he added.
He added that this month had a variation, so it is necessary to analyze how it affects the sector in the medium term by relating it to raw materials they purchased a year ago. Its impact can be seen at the end of this year or in the middle of next.
He stressed that the economy in Mexico is very dynamic and that in the coming years, the outlook is positive. Quintana Roo is one of the investment centers in the country despite having more active areas such as Monterrey, Guadalajara, Querétaro, or Puebla. However, in terms of density, it is almost on par.
Infrastructure works such as the Mayan Train, the Puerta al Mar, and the Nichupté Bridge currently drive the good numbers of the state. However, in the region, there is a constant production of lodging centers and residential homes, among other works.
For all these reasons, the twenty-first edition of Expo Deconarq is on the horizon from August 20 to 22, with more than 80 exhibitors representing 150 brands nationwide, and about three thousand visitors, both from the country and abroad, are expected. The direct economic impact is estimated to be more than five million pesos just from the exhibitors, in addition to what business tourism will leave from car rentals, lodging, and food, and to that is added the closing of negotiations that last for a week after the Expo, in the medium or long term.
