The cost of housing is above average in Cancún, Playa del Carmen, Campeche, and Kanasín

The cost of housing nationwide increased by 9.5% in the first half of the year. Quintana Roo is in second place with 12.7%, Campeche is above average with 10.7%, and Yucatán with 9.6%. At the municipal level, Cancún, Playa del Carmen, Campeche, and Kanasín stand out, with levels above 10 percent, according to the Federal Mortgage Society (SHF) Housing Price Index.

Among the states, Baja California Sur is the first place with 14.7%. Its two tourist destinations, La Paz and Los Cabos, have increased the most, with 14.9% and 14.5% respectively. Tijuana, in Baja California, is in third place with 13.1%.

Quintana Roo is the second state. Cancún and Playa del Carmen are fourth and fifth among municipalities (Benito Juárez and Solidaridad) with the most increase: 13% and 12.6%, respectively.

In the case of Campeche, the capital with the highest increase is 11%, and then Ciudad del Carmen with 10.8%.

In Yucatán, Kanasín, a municipality adjacent to Mérida, stands out, where the increase in the cost of housing – both new and used – rose on average in the first half of the year compared to the previous year by 10.2% and in Mérida 9.7%.

The SHF Index for new housing presented a national variation of 10.1%, while that corresponding to used housing increased 9 points during the first half of 2024.

In the annual comparison of the first half of 2024 against the same period in 2023, the SHF Index registered rates above the national average in 40 municipalities and appreciation rates below the national average in 34 cities.
