Manchas is the guardian dog of the turtles in Yucatán. He ensures the well-being of these marine animals.

According to Alicia Gamboa, a volunteer at the Telchac Turtle Club, it was a year ago when she started walking along the strip of sand. There, she realized that a new furry friend was following her, so she made him her permanent companion.

As time went by, this woman discovered that Manchas was a guardian dog for the turtles in Yucatan, as he could find the nests, which he enjoyed lying down and looking at (without digging the eggs up, of course).

It is well-known that some stray or feral dogs that wander along Yucatecan beaches attack and injure turtles during the nesting period, and dig up the nests to feast on the eggs. But Manchas is different, as he protects the turtles.

Amanda Noh, also a member of the Telchac Turtle Club, commented that there are eight different species of sea turtles in the world, of which six reach the Mexican coast.

Of the eggs that hatch, only 2% will reach adulthood. That is why in Yucatán, there are five turtle camps. In addition, various associations and companies seek to support this conservation of the species and the planet.

Biologists, environmentalists, and animal activists can rest a little easier now knowing that Manchas is the watchdog of the turtles in Yucatan.

Manchas will ensure that all the eggs on his beach remain intact. Once the babies are ready, you will be the guide to help them get to the water so that the waves will take them to a new destination.
