The student in the third semester of the Degree in Software Engineering at the Autonomous University of Yucatán (UADY), Karina Puch Rodríguez, participated in the 31st edition of the International Spatial Settlement Design Contest (ISSDC) at the Center Kennedy Space Station in Florida, United States.
In this international competition, student teams design innovative projects on colonization and space settlement development and is also a platform that challenges young people to think creatively and collaborate as a team.
In an interview, Karina recalled that during the competition, they divided the Mexican delegation into four teams with young people from different countries. They also divided the group into four areas: structure, operations, human factors, automatization, and marketing.
He commented that, on this occasion, the national team made up of eight students from different educational institutions in the country was in charge of automating the construction process of the structure of the habitat, homes, and businesses, as well as the repair, maintenance, security, and mechanization of the data center.
The student from the Faculty of Mathematics briefly detailed the function of each department: Structures focuses on the shape and dimensions of the establishment while Operations is responsible for obtaining resources and specifying security and communication systems.
For its part, he continued, Human Factors deal with the psychological responsibility of the inhabitants and the design of the social structure, while Automation is responsible for the design of autonomous technology from complex neural network systems to maintenance robots, and, finally, Marketing is in charge of the aesthetics and style guide of the final presentation, as well as the total budget of the project.
“This is the first time that Mexico has a delegation and a participation of eight people from all over the country and we stand out among more than dozens of students from around the world,” he highlighted.
He explained that, during their stay in Florida, the national team divided the corresponding assignments, “each one was in charge of developing various activities and once they had the complete project, they presented themselves before a jury made up of professionals from the aerospace sector, who evaluated the projects. and they chose the winner.”
