In a recent meeting, Governor Mauricio Vila Dosal and the United States Consul in Mérida, Justen Thomas, confirmed their intention to continue working together to strengthen the bilateral relationship.
Thomas, who assumed his position on August 1 and was previously Education Attaché at the US Embassy in Spain, met with Vila Dosal and members of the state government to discuss collaboration strategies in areas such as investments, security, education, environment, economy, and entrepreneurship.
The governor highlighted the historic collaboration with the US consulate, highlighting the progress made in security, tourism, and reducing poverty and illiteracy in Yucatán.
“We have maintained a relationship of respect and results, and we will continue to work together to advance even further,” said Vila Dosal. For his part, Consul Thomas praised the positive impact of the collaboration between both parties over the past six years and expressed his enthusiasm to continue this work. He appreciated the security environment in the region, which will allow more efforts to focus on new opportunities to strengthen ties between Yucatan and the United States.
