According to the Bank of Mexico, in the second quarter of the year, remittances from compatriots to Yucatan increased by 13.25 percent more than the previous quarter, with a total of 118.1 million US dollars entering the state.

Banxico reports that, in the first quarter of the year, from January to March, Yucatan received 104.46 million US dollars in remittances, a figure that was surpassed by the 118.19 million US dollars received in the period from April to June of this year.

The municipality that received the most remittances in this second half of the year was Mérida with 39.67 million US dollars; followed by Oxkutzcab with 23.82 million US dollars; in third place is Tekax with 14.16 million US dollars and followed by the town of Ticul with 8.5 million US dollars.

Among the municipalities that receive the largest amount of remittances are Cenotillo with 2.5 million US dollars; Buczotz and Hunucmá with 2.4 million; Teabo with 2.2 million, Motul with 2.1 million, Muna, Valladolid, and Progreso with 1.8 million each, Tzucacab with 1.6 million and Tizimín which received 1.5 million US dollars.

Last year, Yucatán closed with a total of 450 million US dollars received in remittances, and so far in 2024, has already added up to just over 222 million US dollars.

This is because a significant number of Yucatecans live, and work in the United States and send remittances to their relatives.
