Cecilia Patrón Laviada was sworn in on Saturday, August 31, as municipal president of Mérida for 2024-2027, committing to work for all citizens, mainly those most in need.

“As municipal president, my commitment is to take care of you as you take care of Mérida,” said Patrón Laviada, who arrived at the City Council after winning the last elections on June 2.

The inauguration took place at the Multifunctional Center of the San José Tecoh neighborhood, breaking with the tradition of previous mayors who protested in the historic center.

The new mayor was received with massive applause from hundreds of people, including several special guests, including the licensed governor Mauricio Vila Dosal, former mayors, and officials from the three levels of government.

After greeting her guests, Cecilia Patrón went up to the stage, where the council members were already waiting for her to begin the session in which Edgar Ramirez Pech was approved as the municipal secretary.

In her message, interrupted on several occasions by the applause of the people, Cecilia Patron pointed out that she assumes the presidency with integrity, dedication, and pride.

She mentioned that every decision made will be thinking about the well-being of society. Cecilia Patrón also said that, with the support of citizens, they would achieve a more humane, orderly, and generous Mérida.

At the end, she exclaimed: Mérida, it is better with you, receiving a prolonged standing applause.
