This weekend, while the city is dressed in colors and national celebrations, the cultural and artistic offering continues with different options that strengthen the integral development of children and adults.

In this sense, the Mérida City Council and the municipal president Cecilia Patrón Laviada continue to promote culture and traditions with activities that make the Yucatecan capital a benchmark for talent, creativity, and learning.

The Sonoran writer Carlos René Padilla will arrive at the José Martí Cultural Center to share literary experiences about his book “Hercules in the Desert”, on Friday, September 13 at 7:30 p.m.

The narrator and journalist won the 2022 José Fuentes Mares National Literature Award for his work “Bavispe”. His first books were dedicated to chronicles, then the journalistic vein led him to the red note and immersion journalism, of which he has written novels and other titles such as “Amorcito corazón” and “No toda la sangre es roja”.

On Saturday the 14th, at the same venue, children’s craft workshops will be offered to create “Patriotic Eggs” and have fun with science with the “Confetti Cannon” experiment at 9:00 and 10:00 in the morning, respectively. During the activities, there will be the entertaining participation of Berta Merodio “La Gallipava“. All activities at this cultural center are free; the workshops have limited capacity.

The animated short film “The days are getting shorter” will have its last screenings on Sundays the 15th and 22nd of September at the Centro Cultural del Sur, at 11 in the morning. The project is directed by David Igneas and tells the story of an orange cat who faces loneliness when his caregiver does not return home after going out for errands; his routine changes and his home begins to fade away.

The shows of the Meridana Week will continue this weekend with their usual offering. Every Friday, the video mapping “Isla de Luz” is projected at the Monument to the Fatherland starting at 8 pm.

On Saturday the 14th, the representation of the Mayan ball game “Pok Ta Pok” will take place in San Sebastián Park, while the “Noche Mexicana” program will celebrate the national holidays with folklore and music at the Remate del Paseo de Montejo. Both start at 8 pm.

The following day, “Mérida en Domingo” will take place in Santa Ana Park, starting at 10 am, with its artisanal, gastronomic, and artistic offerings that will be performed starting at noon, and ending at 9 pm.

On Monday, September 16, the Mérida City Hall Representative Folklore Ballet will open the weekly program with the “Vaquería Yucateca”, accompanied by the Orquesta Jaranera, starting at 9 pm in the Parque de la Ermita.

In visual arts, the temporary exhibitions “A dos manos” by Efrén Maldonado and David Mex, as well as the collective “Ensayo visual sobre el encuentro” curated by maestro Alberto Arceo, continue at the Olimpo Cultural Center. They can be visited throughout September, from Tuesday to Sunday, and admission is free.

The Olimpo Season, in its second stage, includes film, music, and circus art premieres this September.
