President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said that “it is laughable” to think that with the Judicial Reform, Mexico will become a dictatorship, as the former PRI president Ernesto Zedillo pointed out.

“Ex-President Ernesto Zedillo says that Mexico is already a dictatorship, and it is laughable, it is ironic. They make a fool of themselves, but they do not go beyond that,” said the president.

Former President Ernesto Zedillo said on Sunday, September 15th, at the Annual Conference of the International Bar Association, that the purpose of the new reform to the Judicial Branch of the Federation promoted by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, is revenge to destroy the current justice system created a new one that follows the guidelines of his administration without resistance. He also stressed that this situation will lead to the loss of democracy in Mexico.

Zedillo added that the approval of the Judicial Reform that will remove the current ministers, magistrates, and judges of the Judicial Branch of the Federation to elect others by popular vote is “a historic mistake.”

Obrador added with irony on Tuesday that he is very grateful to his opponents because if it were not for their criticism, the changes he has made in the country would not have advanced so quickly.

“I am very grateful to my opponents because without the respectful, responsible behavior of those who do not see us in a good light, we would not have advanced as we have, and we would not have advanced, which is the most important fact, the crux of the matter: to advance peacefully in the transformation, because our opponents get angry, slander me, insult me, but they do not go beyond that.”
