Martha Magaña, fifth district judge of the Mexican state of Morelos, granted a definitive suspension against the reform to the Judicial Branch, preventing senators from discussing or voting on it until the injunction trial is resolved.
Magaña’s resolution indicates that the reform ruling “cannot be considered and even less approved by the new legislature and they must refrain from sending it to the Legislatures of the States and Mexico City for approval.”
On August 29, three federal judges requested an amparo trial against the reform ruling because they argued that it violated their human rights and the rights of the community, in addition to putting judicial independence at risk.
Likewise, the judge indicated that the ruling must be delivered to the legislature as soon as possible since the reform is already being discussed in committees.
