The president of the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI), Alejandro Moreno Cárdenas, denounced that legislators from his party received threats from people close to organized crime to vote in favor of the Judicial Reform.
“We are reaching the extreme that legislators from several opposition parties are receiving messages from people close to organized crime to endorse and support the reform to the Judicial Branch presented by Morena and its allies,” said Moreno Cárdenas in a message spread through social networks. In the video, he appears with PRI senators.
Alejandro Moreno Cárdenas ratified the commitment of the PRI bench to vote against the initiative promoted by Morena and reported that as a measure to promote conditions of stability, the 15 senators of the PRI, as well as their substitutes, will be meeting in the same location, even staying overnight as many days as necessary, to be together in case of any eventuality.
Moreno Cárdenas also held the government responsible for any misfortune that might happen to opposition legislators.
“We hold the government of the Republic responsible for any misfortune that might happen to our senators or their families.”
The PRI message also warned the media that “if independent and autonomous judges, guarantors of freedom of expression, fall, you will be silenced and persecuted. This is what happened in countries like Russia, Venezuela and Nicaragua. The country is living through uncertain times. The PRI will never allow a dictatorship to be established in Mexico,” said Moreno Cárdenas.
This week, the Senate is expected to discuss the ruling on the reform of the Judicial Branch.
