María Fritz, head of the governor’s office, accompanied by Mauricio Vila, senator, and Genri Pacab, the mayor of Yaxunah, gave the community a softball field for the Amazonas team.
Sitlali Poot, captain of the team, thanked the government for the new facilities, which she assured will be of great help.
Fritz and Vila, accompanied by the athlete, led the first ball toss.
The authorities pointed out that this work is the result of the efforts of Yucatecan women and sets an example that when women support each other, they can achieve many things.
The Amazonas de Yaxunah from the municipality of Yaxcabá, Yucatán are a women’s softball team. The team is made up of 26 players, between 13 and 62 years old.
They attracted attention for playing with huipiles. Until October 2023, the team is captained by Sitlali Yovana Poot Dzib and is coached by Joel Díaz Canul, her husband.
