The Mexican flag is flying again on the flagpole of the recently remodeled Plaza Grande in Merida, after a ceremony led by the head of the Governor’s Office, Maria Fritz Sierra, acting as the head of the Executive Branch, together with civil and military authorities.

As part of the activities for the national holidays and accompanied by the mayor of Merida, Cecilia Patrón Laviada, and the commanders of the 13th Naval Zone, Jose Ramon Lopez Luna, and the 32nd Military Zone, Jorge Enrique Martinez Medina, Fritz Sierra witnessed the raising of the monumental national flag measuring 17.5 meters long by 10 meters wide on the 35-meter-high flagpole installed in the center of the Plaza Grande.

This newly remodeled space witnessed the raising of the tricolor flag, which was flown high this day, as part of an act to commemorate the battalion of Irishmen who joined the Mexican Army during the war between Mexico and the United States between 1846 and 1847.

In this framework, the head of the State Governor’s office, together with the head of the Public Security Secretariat (SSP), Luis Felipe Saidén Ojeda; the state Attorney General, Juan Manuel León and the head of the General Secretariat of Government, José Carlos Puerto Patrón, sang the Mexican National Anthem, followed by the Yucatecan Anthem, a symbol of identity and cultural heritage of our state.
