The new Mérida City Council will address 22 points due to flooding in Mérida in a strategy of the current municipal government headed by Cecilia Patrón Laviada, who this Wednesday supervised the cleaning and clearing of grates by employees of the Directorate of Public Services in neighborhoods in the center of the city.

“In the attention of a city in constant growth, the solution to problems is found in the street. Living them, feeling them, and seeing them is the way to solve them,” she expressed.

The mayor toured the streets of the Centro neighborhood, where she highlighted that public services are the city’s foundations and the main factor of equality, ensuring that we all deserve a city that works for our well-being and guarantees social justice for everyone.

The cleaning and clearing of wells and grates are part of the priority and permanent attention so that the city functions optimally for the well-being of its inhabitants.

In that sense, she called on the people of Merida to join the municipal work, being part of the solution by avoiding throwing garbage into the streets and soapy water into the sewers since it clogs them and limits the absorption capacity, clogs our drains and causes the city to flood more.

I ask everyone to team up. The best city in Mexico is the one where citizens participate the most and where there are committed authorities. I am committed to working 24/7, but it has to be teamwork. I have always said I cannot do it alone. I need all the workers and the people of Merida, she expressed.

Cecilia Patron reported that the City Council plans to acquire new machinery for the Public Services and Public Works departments to speed up street cleaning work. They will also build another ten mega cisterns in the most critical points in various areas, and work is being done on a new project to address flooding problems in the first square of the Historic Center.

The Municipal Public Services management works with three desilting machines, two drilling machines, and five water pipes. The workforce is 1,500 employees in the Drainage, Public Lighting, Urban Cleaning, and Park and Gardens departments.

Later, the Mayor visited a pothole point where she explained that the main reports that the City Council receives correspond to potholes, which are attended to as soon as possible. Likewise, permanent contact is maintained with the Yucatán Drinking Water and Sewage Board (JAPAY) to address the water leak problems that are recurrent in the city.
